I am a teacher/administrator in a thriving K-5 school. I try to be better every day. I have an intense interest in education reform… to me not a means to an end, but rather the process of continually seeking a better way to do what educators do.
My role as a teacher has taken me to many different places, and offered me many opportunities to look through the optimists lens at possibilities others may not perceive. If I believe something, I’m going to see it… this is a guiding philosophical principle I follow as an educator. In my work within First Nations communities, with kids from at-risk environments, as a school counselor and now as an administrator, I have witnessed incredible displays of resiliency in kids despite the most challenging circumstances. I have formed the belief that much is possible in the realm of teaching and learning if we focus on student’s strengths, whatever they may be. I don’t believe in failure, only relative degrees of success.
